An earthquake hit Pizzone, located in the province of Isernia, shortly after midnight between Friday and Saturday. Numerous residents evacuated their homes; the mayor confirmed that there were no injuries or structural damages.

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake was registered shortly after midnight early Saturday by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

The epicenter was pinpointed in Pizzone, within the province of Isernia (Molise), at an approximate depth of 10 kilometers.

This tremor was perceptible throughout the province, as well as in Chieti, L’Aquila, and Caserta. Due to fear, many people went outdoors. Later, at 3:41 am, a second quake of magnitude 2.2 was detected in the same region at a depth of 9 kilometers. Earlier this year, in January, the province of Isernia experienced two tremors with a magnitude of 2.5.

Up to now, no injuries or damages to property have been reported. «I remain in continuous communication with the regional Civil Protection authorities. Thankfully, following an initial thorough inspection, no harm to individuals or structures has been identified. Residents remained outside late into the night, mainly because of the anxiety that arose,» stated Vincenzo Di Cristofano, mayor of Pizzone, in an interview with local media (source in Italian).
