Thirty French departments were put under orange alert for storms Thursday evening, with significant hail risk expected.

The intense thunderstorms that struck France Thursday evening resulted in at least two fatalities, as reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

In Saint-Victurnien, located in the Haute-Vienne département, a fatality occurred when a tree toppled. Meanwhile, in Dolomieu, Isère département, a man was discovered deceased in a workshop that caught fire after a lightning strike.

Orange alerts for severe thunderstorms, including a threat of large hail, were issued for thirty départements across central and eastern France on Thursday evening.

The power grid operator Enedis reported on Friday morning that nearly 53,000 households experienced power outages after the storms.
