The joint declaration from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom states: «We believe protecting Europe demands a comprehensive, integrated missile defense system capable of deterring and neutralizing future missile threats.»

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized on X, «Confronted by ballistic threats, our decision is clear: safeguard Ukraine, bolster our collective security, and create a defense-oriented Europe.»

The announcement coincides with the «Coalition of the Willing» summit, where at least 25 heads of state or government convened in Paris on Monday and Tuesday to explore ways to support Ukraine and intensify pressure on Russia.

Prior to the summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Macron, explaining they “discussed in detail the frontline situation and Ukraine’s requirements to protect civilians from Russian assaults.”

He added, “Strengthening Ukraine, enhancing air defense, and speeding Europe’s anti-ballistic missile capability development are vital,” noting that “France possesses the necessary capabilities and advanced technologies to assist these efforts.”

The summit, co-hosted by France and the United Kingdom in Paris, aims to promote a ceasefire and revive peace negotiations, according to the French presidency’s statement released Friday.

Gathering at the Hôtel des Invalides, the allied leaders intend to reinforce unity and collaborative support for Ukraine, as outlined by the French presidency.

This initiative builds upon commitments made during the recent G7 summit in Évian and the NATO summit in Ankara, where allies agreed to deliver €70 billion in military aid to Kyiv in 2026.

The coalition has grown to include 37 countries, meeting both in person and remotely. Moldova and North Macedonia will join Monday’s meeting for the first time.

The Kremlin rejected the summit on Monday, labeling it a «coalition of warmongers,» accusing the leaders of unwillingness to pursue peace.

Macron: Europe will safeguard liberty at any cost

The event takes place on the eve of France’s national holiday, Bastille Day.

Addressing the armed forces prior to the meeting of Ukraine’s allies, President Macron affirmed that Europe remains committed to defending freedom and rights without compromise.

«Our message to the world is clear: Peace remains our objective. We value liberty and rights. Yet, we are prepared to fight and defend them always, even if it demands sacrifice,» the French President stated.

Zelenskyy is anticipated in Paris on Monday and Tuesday, with all leaders expected to participate in the military parade along the Champs Elysees, marking the national day celebrations.
