The suspects, whose ages range from 18 to 68, are being interrogated for offenses that include rape and actions characterized as excessive or violent.
Altogether, the Paris public prosecutor’s office is probing potential abuse in 84 nursery schools, about twenty elementary schools, and roughly ten daycare centers.
Since the beginning of 2026, 78 municipal staff members have been suspended, with 31 of them suspected of sexual misconduct.
Emmanuel Grégoire, who launched a €20 million initiative to tackle sexual abuse within extracurricular settings, acknowledged the «speeding up of investigations».
The case escalated following disclosures made by Le Parisien on Monday. The newspaper reported that a teacher indicted in 2025 for sexually abusing three minors in a Paris school had previously been detained in 2024 for similar allegations at a nearby school.
Emmanuel Grégoire now commits to enforcing sanctions, strengthening hiring practices, and enhancing staff monitoring systems.
