Two commission officials revealed that the «seminar» on competitiveness will also cover the Commission’s “working methods”.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, will gather her team of European Commissioners for a session officially dedicated to competitiveness, which also aims to reduce internal strains within the Commission, several officials informed Euronews.
The official agenda from the Commission states that von der Leyen is scheduled to lead a “college seminar” focusing on competitiveness tomorrow in Leuven, Belgium.
The session will include the participation of Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
This seminar forms part of the EU’s efforts to strengthen the European economy and expedite the application of the competitiveness report composed by former European Central Bank President Mario Draghi.
It will complement the tasks of EU leaders who will convene on 12 February for a “retreat”, where Draghi and former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta—author of another strategic plan for the EU single market—will also be involved.
Yet, two officials pointed out that the meeting will additionally focus on the Commission’s “working methods.”
An official described this gathering as a moment to express “frustrations” among commissioners, highlighting a significant issue: the frequent delays in submitting legislative documents to senior management.
