Irish MEP Ciaran Mullooly from Renew Europe and Swedish MEP Jörgen Warborn from the European People’s Party take part in a passionate exchange about their views on the deal finalized in Paraguay, after more than twenty years of negotiations.

Proponents argue that the agreement demonstrates the EU’s readiness to engage in global commerce and its capacity to make swift decisions amid geopolitical challenges. Jörgen Warborn stresses the importance of new trade agreements for economic expansion, market diversification, and strengthening international influence.

Opponents express apprehension regarding potential compromises in food safety standards and insufficient support for European farmers. Ciaran Mullooly voices concerns about the impact on farmers’ competitiveness, deterioration of environmental safeguards, and loss of public confidence.
