The arrest follows over a year of inquiry into the death of the textile tycoon, which was initially regarded as accidental after he tumbled down a cliff during a walk with his son in the Salnitre caves near Collbató, Barcelona.

Spanish law enforcement officials have detained the son of Mango’s founder, charging him with the suspected homicide of his billionaire father, who passed away in December 2024.

Isak Andic lost his life during a hike on Montserrat mountain in Catalonia. According to the initial version given by Jonathan Andic, his son, Isak slipped on one of the trails and fell approximately 150 meters off a cliff.

The preliminary investigations classified the event as a fatal mountain mishap. Nevertheless, discrepancies in Jonathan’s testimonies alongside other findings compelled authorities to intensify their probe. Jonathan Andic currently serves as vice-chairman on the board of directors of the fashion enterprise.

Multiple Spanish news outlets have indicated a strained relationship between father and son, noting that a serious dispute occurred shortly before the tragedy. Jonathan Andic is set to be presented before a judge within hours in Martorell.

Born in 1953 in Istanbul into a Sephardic Jewish family, Isak Andic relocated to Catalonia at 14 years old. By age 17, he was vending clothing and shoes at street markets, later expanding his ventures by opening fashion stores. This foundation eventually grew into a substantial business empire in Spain’s textile industry, achieving international competitiveness alongside brands such as Zara.
