Ukraine declared it inflicted a significant setback on Russia’s control over the occupied Crimean peninsula, confirming the destruction of a vital railway bridge spanning the North Crimean Canal in a series of coordinated attacks. Kyiv’s forces referred to this bridge as the “first one” to have been taken out.
A railway bridge crossing the North Crimean Canal near Rozdolne village “no longer exists,” stated Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) on Tuesday, describing it as the initial target eliminated within occupied Crimea.

“An urgent official statement: the railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal in Crimea has been destroyed. The first one is gone,” the SOF announced in a post on Threads.
Subsequently, the SOF shared video footage that appears to show the strike on the bridge.
“This bridge was part of a transportation route used to transfer cargo, supplies, and military materiel in two critical directions: from Russia, across Crimea, to support operations in the southern sector,» the SOF explained.
The bridge stands on the railway line connecting the Kerch Strait crossing with the rest of the occupied peninsula and further to Russian units in the temporarily occupied regions of southern Ukraine, including Kherson and areas along the Sea of Azov’s coast.
This attack complicates Moscow’s capacity to transport troops, ammunition, and fuel via rail, which remains a key component of Russia’s military supply chain.
Importantly, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces disclosed that the mission was carried out in collaboration with “underground members of the SOF resistance movement.”
Passenger train services suspended in Crimea
The strike on Tuesday followed a string of Ukrainian operations targeting ground communication lines and military and energy infrastructure across the annexed Crimean region.
Following these events, the occupation authorities installed by Moscow announced a halt to all passenger train operations within Crimea, stating that Kerch — located on the peninsula’s eastern edge and linked to Russia by the illegally constructed Kerch bridge — would remain the origin and terminus for routes to and from the Russian mainland.
With the destruction of the railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal, the logistics of moving goods and personnel to central and western Crimea, alongside the land corridor to Russian-held parts of southern Ukraine, have become substantially more complex.
The overnight operation targeting the bridge was part of a wider campaign against Russian military and energy infrastructure, as reported by Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces.
In a separate announcement, the SOF confirmed that its drones struck 60 Russian sites in temporarily occupied areas, including Crimea, during the night of June 23.
The targeted locations reportedly included oil storage facilities at the Kerch thermal power plant and the “Western Crimea” electrical substation situated in the village of Karierne.
Ukrainian troops also claimed successful hits on multiple air defense and radar systems,
Collectively, these attacks seem aimed not only at undermining Russia’s supply capabilities but also at weakening the air-defense shield and situational monitoring that protect crucial logistics hubs, thereby facilitating further strikes in the future.
